Photo Adventures

Flock of Geese

My first photo adventure was a flock of geese at a pond in my area. As I approached them for a closer look they spread out but I didn’t spook them enough to leave the pond. I started shooting them with my camera when they were flying around, walking on the frozen pond and on the grass. There were a bunch of them! It was fun capturing them as they went about their day.

Corn Harvest

I was out early on an October evening looking to eventually capture some sunset shots when I ran across farmers harvesting a cornfield. I was able to get one farmers attention and he let me ride inside the tractor with him. He was a young man in an exchange program from South Africa and this was his last day in the fields before heading back home. It was a bumpy ride but I was able to capture some shots inside the tractor. It was a pleasure to converse with this young man, he was very nice to me. After the tractor ride I walked around the cornfield capturing more images. Being in that cornfield as the sunset was so serene.

Ice Storm

In 2007 a big ice storm hit the area. I lived in Gardner, KS at that time. I decided to grab my camera and venture out into the frigid cold and capture as many ice shots as I could since the opportunity for this kind of ice storm doesn’t happen very often. Most of what I captured was at the Gardner Lake. It was challenging sliding on ice and shooting in the cold but very rewarding.

Grand Tetons

My favorite place to visit is Grand Teton National Park. I’m in awe of its beauty! My first visit was a really long time ago and I had always wanted to go back some day so I packed up my camera and hiking gear and hit the road to Wyoming. The first thing I did when I arrived was hike one of the trails in Colter Bay where I stayed. I hiked two more lengthy trails in the park with my camera, capturing images along the way. I hiked with my bear spray and thankfully didn’t run across any bears. The trails are filled with natural beauty. It was such a wonderful adventure!

South Dakota

On the same trip to Grand Teton National Park I spent some time in South Dakota. First up, Badlands National Park. I set up camp and went hiking with my camera capturing the scenery. There were “Beware of Rattlesnakes” signs on the trail and I actually ran across one. I first heard it, then saw it several feet from me, as suggested I kept hiking and it did not bother me. I then drove into the Black Hills, a beautiful area. I captured shots at Roughlock Falls in Spearfish Canyon. I ran across two fellow photographers along my journey. They both gave me tips on how to improve my shots. It was a treat to talk to them and get their expertise. My last stop before heading to Wyoming was Mount Rushmore. There was a heavy fog moving through allowing me to capture a different kind of shot of the monument.

Yellowstone

While in Wyoming I made a day trip into Yellowstone National Park. I went to the popular attractions to get some shots. I’m sure you have seen photos from these areas but these come from my viewpoint and camera. It was a fun day traveling the park.

Ozark Mountain Region

I wanted to do some hiking not too far away from home and headed to the Ozark Mountain Region. I lodged in Ponca, AR. I took several hikes with my camera in hand to capture whatever grabbed my attention. One hike was by the Buffalo River. Plenty to absorb, a beautiful and serene area.

Heavy Snow – Lake Olathe

A heavy snow storm hit the area so I grabbed my camera and ventured out to Lake Olathe just a couple miles from my house to see what I could capture. The snowfall was so beautiful around the entire lake. I had fun stomping around in the deep snow.
